There are three modes of communication between teacher and student within any given lesson. These are: Teacher Only One Talking, Raise Your Hand, and Speak Out. This skill trains teachers to communicate nonverbally to students what mode is acceptable. Teachers begin by saying the verbal while modeling the nonverbal, for example, “Raise your hand if...” while raising a hand. A teacher may then drop the verbal and just use the nonverbal signal. In this clip the teacher goes from Teacher Only One Talking to Raise Your Hand to Speak Out and then back to Raise Your Hand using nonverbals to assist in each transition.
